Golf del Sur - Golf course information & golf holiday offers
Golf del Sur on Tenerife, opened in 1987, has established itself as the venue for numerous international golf tournaments. From 1989 to 1994, the course hosted the Tenerife Open of the PGA European Tour, with victories by José Maria Olazábal, David Gilford and Mark James. In 1995, Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson met here in the Shell Wonderful World of Golf.
The 18-hole championship course offers challenging play and spectacular views. In 1999, Briton Karl Woodward set two long drive world records here: First with 398 yards and then with 408 yards.
In 2002, the first edition of the Tenerife Ladies Open was held at Golf del Sur, a tournament of the LPGA European Evian Tour, which was won by Raquel Carriedo from Spain. The course was originally designed by Pepe Gancedo and renovated by Manuel Piñero in 2005. Holes 3 and 5 on the links course are characterised by their challenging location and the flora gives the 800,000 m² site a unique atmosphere.
The golf course also has a golf academy, driving range, tennis courts, mini golf, restaurant, pro shop and changing rooms. Golf del Sur is TÜV-certified in accordance with ISO 14001 and bears the ‘Golf of the Biosphere’ label.
