Located in Hungary’s Transdanubian region, Lake Balaton is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe and one of the region’s main tourist destinations. The Zala River is its largest tributary, and the channelled Sió is the only outlet. The main tourist centres around the lake are Siófok, Keszthely, Balatonfüred and the nearby spa town of Héviz.
