Located in Hungary’s Transdanubian region, Lake Balaton is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe and one of the region’s main tourist destinations. The Zala River is its largest tributary, and the channelled Sió is the only outlet. The main tourist centres around the lake are Siófok, Keszthely, Balatonfüred and the nearby spa town of Héviz. This region boasts the magnificent Robert Trend Jones Jr. designed course at the Zala Spring resort and the Lake Balaton course next to the Balaton Highlands National Park. In addition to golf, the tourist offer in the main domestic tourist destination is completed by hiking, festivals, historical sites, water activities, walks in wine regions, all of which can be combined with different types of accommodation, from luxurious hotels and castles to family flats. Its temperature is similar to the Mediterranean climate, with a high season from June to the end of August, but golfing conditions extend from the end of March to the beginning of November.
